ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Robert J. Simandl – von Briesen & Roper, s.c.

Bob counsels’ employers on all aspects of workplace compliance including hiring, disciplining and terminating employees. He also has experience with accommodation obligations, wage and hour issues, affirmative action, discrimination complaints, non-competition agreements and employee handbook design and development. Bob has represented employers before the federal district courts, National Labor Relations Board, 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and a number of administrative agencies and tribunals, including the Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission, Wisconsin Equal Rights Division and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Ann Barry Hanneman – von Briesen & Roper, s.c.

Ann Barry Hanneman is a Shareholder in the Waukesha office of von Briesen & Roper, s.c.  She received her undergraduate degree in Industrial Relations from LeMoyne College and her law degree from Marquette University.  Ms. Hanneman focuses her practice exclusively in labor and employment law and is a frequent author, speaker and trainer on employment law matters.  She is recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® for Employment Law – Management (2021).  Ms. Hanneman is a member of the Labor and Employment Sections of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Wisconsin.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace – Policy and Program Considerations

In the wake of the current social justice movement, employers have been challenged to critically examine policies and procedures as well as operating protocols that address issues of workplace Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).  Although there is not a “one size fits all” proposition, this program will examine ways in which employers may create approaches to address these efforts in a manner that fits their mission and business objectives as a Company.

In this session, Bob Simandl and Ann Barry Hanneman of von Briesen & Roper, s.c. will address the legal and practical issues associated with adopting, implementing and integrating DEI policies as well as developing training and supporting programs. 

Learning Objectives and Actions Steps:

  • The presenters will provide a roadmap for monitoring achievements in advancing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in your organization.
  • Participants will be able to identify these core issues within their organization.
  • Participants will examine ways in which employers may create approaches to address these efforts in a manner that fits their mission and business objectives as a Company.
  • Actionable solutions will be presented, which will provide participants with learning skills to create multi-step solutions to address a processes of change within their organization.
